Riverkeeper and partners are monitoring a large algae bloom in the Hudson River Estuary. While the bloom appears to be in the Catskill region, because the river is tidal, we want the public to be aware. Algae blooms can produce toxins that may pose health risks to people, pets, and wildlife through ingestion, inhalation, or skin contact.
Out of caution, we encourage everyone to avoid contact with water that looks discolored, has surface scum, or appears unusual.
? Keep yourself and your pets out of affected water.
? Don’t let pets drink from the river or play near the shoreline if a bloom is present.
? Report any sightings through the NYHABS website: https://dec.ny.gov/environmental-protection/water/water-quality/harmful-algal-blooms/notifications
