Spray Park Opens to Rave Reviews

Despite a little rain, the new Spray Park in the Paine Street Park opened on Monday morning to rave reviews from the many in attendance. Mayor Ellen McNulty-Ryan, Director of Recreation Maggie Alix, local officials and anxious Green Island residents both young and old were on hand to dedicate and open the new state of the art Spray Park, which is located in the Paine Street Park. The ceremony coincided with the official opening of the Summer Park Program.

The new water park was built without using any taxpayer dollars and replaced the old spray pool that was in existence in the park since the 1940’s. This entire project was made possible through the generosity of John and Linda Kutey in honor of their parents Edmund Ostrowski and the late Gertrude Ostrowski and Joseph and Mercedes Kutey, Sr. The Mayor also acknowledged the efforts of James Besha, Sr. and Albany Engineering Corp. for donating their time and expertise in the design, engineering and coordination of this project and Todd Grimm and Grimm Building Materials who donated materials used in the construction. All of them were on hand for the ceremony. Gallo Construction was the General Contractor for the project.

Hot Dogs and refreshments were served immediately following the ceremony.

The Spray Park is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. through August 16th.
