A project which would construct a water interconnection between the City of Watervliet and the Village of Green Island started this morning. The project location runs from 25th Street and Broadway in Watervliet to Albany Avenue near Pine Street in Green Island. This project will enable a redundant water supply in the event of emergency or a general need for water. This project has been planned for many years and will enhance public safety through increased pressure and available water and will decrease, although not entirely, the need for shut downs of the entire south end during water breaks.
There will be lane closures, but detours and closures will be minimal through out the construction. The project is expected to take about a month to complete.
The project is funded primarily by a $274,000 grant provided by the New York Department of State through a shared service initiatives grant. The Village of Green Island will provide local share for the balance as well.
Drilling Technologies of Wynantskill is the General Contractor and Weston and Sampson are the project engineers.
