While many municipalities and organizations have found it necessary to cancel their Memorial Day Parades because of the COVID-19 situation, we have devised a plan to honor our Veterans, although it will be on a much smaller scale than usual.
We will have the Veterans float carry the Legnard-Curtin American Legion Post Color Guard while playing patriotic music, along with vehicles from the Police and Fire Departments. We will line up on Albany Avenue near Albany Mechanical at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 21st and proceed to Hudson Avenue going north, then George Street going south, Paine Street going north, James Street going south, High Street going north, West Street going south, John Street going north to Cohoes Avenue, east onto Veterans Memorial Drive, south on Cannon Street, east on Tibbits and back down George Street to Albany Ave where we started.
Basically, since you can’t come to the parade, we will bring the parade to you.
While this is not our ideal way to honor our Veterans, it at least lets them know we appreciate their service and their sacrifice. We invite everyone to watch from their homes (inside or outside) and please respect the social distancing regulations.
